Sorry to rain on the parade but thats not a farlowella..
Sturisoma panamense.

whiptail?

Well interesting you should say that.......Here's a quote of what I sent to the seller, "Thanks for you kind and honest reply. These guys are cooler then the XLG Fire Eel I was looking at. I didn't realize they were "Royal" Farowellas. This makes them more appealing".

I'm certaintainly not doubting what is is being said here, but given the fact that the pictured fish is not yet 3" I'm wondering if someone can tell with certainty that it is not a "Royal", and more specifically why (i.e., dorsal and pectorals too short)?

Another question I have is if it is a albino Sturisoma panmense is it a frequently or more frequently seen fish.....or still quite rare?

I have a Sturisoma panamense but not the albino form that you have there. They're still seldom available. The head shape of the albino in your pic is just enough to tell me it is not a farlowella.

I'm feeling a bit in the dark here as most of the reference I see with the with the scientific name "panamense" is accompanied by the common name "farlowella"

Also went back and checked.....the source for the fish has both S. aureum and S. panamense in stock, but clearly lists the albino fish as aureum.

I got the name out of one of Axelrod's atlases. 1987. Things change. Names change. It could be in the family. I couldn't say, I was just going with the resource I have. I'd like to buy the latest full blown addition but alas........

Hey guys just thought id add my 2 cents. Farlowella (when most people refer to them) are the twig catfish Farlowella Arcus, this fish is very long and skinny like a 'twig' the royal farlowella a believe is just another common name for a royal whiptail. So you guys are all right it is just that the wholesaler has used an older common name.

H

PS those albinos are senstaional I would buy 100.
