OK I guess you could say that I am new to fish keeping.... not really new just new in trying to figure out how to get it all right.
Anyway I totaly over cleaned my filter media a little over a week ago and now i have got this green tinged water. This has never happened even when my husband was keeping the tank and making waaaay worse mistakes then I have been making.
Do you think that over cleaning the fliter could be a cause of this, if so should i just let it run its course keeping up with a weekly 25% water change. Or is there someting I should be doing to help the situation?
Thanks,
Jennifer

Is the tank planted? What type of lighting and what size tank? How long do you have the lights on? Does the tank get direct sunlight?

Cover the tank with a sheet or something. Turn the lights on minimally. Feed the tank minimally as well.

i can promise you that cleaning the media caused the algae bloom... by cleaning the media you killed off all the good bacteria..
feed very lightly for a while.. do daily 30-40% waterchanges and it should take care of itself in a week or so..

generaly speaking you dont need to clean the media untill its restricting the waterflow.. and then to clean it.. fill a bucket with tank water.. swish the media around in the bucket to get major chunks off and call it done..

And stay away from those cures in a bottle, like algae destroyer's. or algone they do more harm than good.

I'm not so sure. BB die offs are white. In his original post, he said that the tint was green, the tank gets some direct sunlight, and the light is on for 12 hours.

Algae bloom.

Make sure there is no sunlight entering the tank.

i think its either due to too much sunlight or your lights are on for too long. try to reduce both
