Try some Loricariidae, primarily Otocinclus. Get 5-6 and let-em at it!
They are hardy and probably won't show up on the Retics radar. They are quite frisky and fast. I had a small shoal 8-10 with 2 retics and did not lose a one. Just make sure you account for their dietary needs (sinking vegetarian pellets) after they control the algae.
