I am looking for a algae eater that would work good in a 55 w/a pair jack dempsey's and one for a 75 with a ebjd and a texas cichlid. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have always had success with Chinese algae eaters.

This is the first time I have ever heard anyone say this.
CAE only eat algae at a young age, and don't even do good at that.
They get very aggressive when they get older. I had one almost kill a full grown firemouth. Cichlids aren't equipt to fight a fish that will ram or suck on their side.
I fed the damn thing to a large Oscar.
I would recommend a bristle nosed pleco for algae.

Yeah, stay away from the CAE. You could also get a Siamese algae eater, they are very good

x2 on the bristlenose, they don't get much bigger than 6 inches.but if your planning to the breed JD's,plecos will eat eggs

I wouldn't even look toward plecos for algae maintenance... with frequent water changes, keeping your lights on for limited amounts of time and routine tank maintanence you shoudn't have to worry much about algae.

Go with the bristlenose plecos. I always liked the starlight bristlenose, but there are plenty of species to choose from for looks.

In truth, the best algae eaters I've ever had are otos, but they're too small.

+1
They are extremely aggressive CAE, I'd agree go with a bristle nosed pleco.
