the couple that i have owned in the past were out in the day or night,i would also watch them closely to be sure they get enough to eat.after a few weeks you will probably need to drop some sinking pleco food

well the problem that I am having is he hides in a log all day and night!!!

fishmamma is spot on with her advice about lighting and frequent water changes. I'd recommend no more than 8 hours or so a day lights on (especially if the tank gets daylight through a window), and weekly 40% WCs
