Algae eaters...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i dont care ,they work the best and when you are done with them you can fry them up....they is tasteeeeeeee

You could try a royal pleco. Mind you i'd be sure you'd want one because as many seem to be good at ridding algae, its never guarenteed, but they produce a lot of waste. No other plecos would be big enough. Would large snails work...if you dont mind them. Like said, algae scraper is always a great bet.

Chinese algae eaters are not that great of a fish to keep, they are very aggressive, and pretty bad at eating algae IME.

I'd agree with davo, a royal will be your best bet. Other than that either the snails or the razor blade.

go to petsmart and get chineese algea eaters, two will keep that thing spotless
Not until you realize how much trouble adult ones bring.;) Some people never realize just how big CAEs get. Not to mention how adults behave differently from their juvenile stage.

Only because it is obvious your CAEs are still juvies.;)

I guess I'm probably going to toss a couple snails in there. They are cheap and won't both anyone else. I finally transferred my Clown Knife into the 55g last night. It was sort of funny, after I took him out of the tank he'd been sharing with my puffer....the puffer started acting all depressed. Wierd....

haha he missed his playmate

Heh, yeah. And let me tell you there is NOTHING sadder looking than a depressed puffer. He just laid at the bottom up against the glass looking at me accussingly.

Maybe leather grunters (Scortum hillii)or Awaous banana (river gobies) would suit you? I don't know anyone currently selling them though.
Or try to find some natives, tbe Carpoides velifer (Highfin carpsucker) might be a bit large, too 20", but there are several like catostomus species that might work and some are found in Texas.

Thanks guppy....shoulda known either you would come up with something off the wall for me. I'll feel bad now when I pitch guppies into my tanks as feeders....for a minute.
