Algae Fix killing our fish!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i only read through the 1st page, i'm on my way to read the remaining 2, and i hope (sure it will) it provides lots more answers for me...and others.

thanks!

just finished reading all your post (but very quickly, will read again later)

mr. miles does have good explanations,

while this problem was occurring the 1st time (last wed) i didnt test the ammonia level, but i did test the D.O. (11.2, i work at a wastewater treatment plant, so our equipment is very reliable)

the 2nd time it happened i did test the ammonia level, and i was suprised that it averaged .159, i really never suspected this high of a reading (the over the counter dip test strips shows far less ammonia) the D.O. was 8.36

at any rate........a diff product.

Ugh, another old thread. I thought it was a new one. I was thinking didn't this guy check for older threads as the algaefix story is old. Then when I saw miles's post I was thinking... this guy hasn't been on for awhile. That's when I looked at the date.

Almost anytime chemical is added. The water 'balance' needs to be watched closely.

I have had a lot of experience with the pond version of this product when I worked at an LFS. You NEED to have all the aeration you can get, otherwise you will lose the oxygen in your water.
Same! i only tried it once when i had an algea bloom. At the time i had only 2 High fins and 2 Mosquito Fish. Both high fins died, they tried to get on the rocks and breath air. I think they sufficated? And when i put the medication in the High Fins started breathing very heavy. But the Mosquitos were fine. I think it has more of an effect on tropical fish?
