Algae growing on specific material

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is there any way to get rid of this algae or would it be beneficial to keep it and let it grow. It does give a different look that I kind of like.
In new tanks, diatoms come up all the time. Mine is always growing back. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to get rid of it besides manual scrubbing. These, along with Black Beard Algae, looks ugly on fake decor. Driftwood and rocks with that look great. I have both diatom and bba in my tank.

The best way to stop or prevent blooms is water changes. I do get blooms at certain times of the year when the sun is the strongest. I just do more water changes.
The green hair algae seems to be taking over the background and I’m hoping it does, because it’s my favorite kind. Fish love to eat it.
Isn’t Java moss a type of algae or related? I thought I read somewhere you can get algae from adding it to your tank.

Algae growth is dependent on enough lighting, carbon dioxide supply, and nutrients coming from fish foods. If you limit the nutrients that are coming into the fish tank, it will also limit the possibility of the algae growing. One way to control the growth of algae is to follow whatever is your maintenance schedule strictly. For example, if you find that your nitrates are getting above 25 parts per million, you should be doing a water change immediately. So, if the nitrates are around 40 to 50 parts per million, that’s the fastest way for the algae to grow. You can also do a gravel vacuum if you feel that the sand or gravel needs cleaning.

I like it. If it bothers you that much what about putting moss on it to cover it up?

I notice my tanks seem To go through an algae cycle until certain algae’s setup shop, this brown algae is always the first arrival and this stage I have seen last a long time in my tanks. It’s usually followed by stag horn, hair, and BBA. The brown algae stage is the messiest as you wipe it away it become free floating ??‍♀️Such a pain to deal with.

mid your lucky maybe you will end up with a nice green algae that looks natural.

this is one of my favourite algae’s I’ve grown in the picture below, it’s nice little tufts on the driftwood.
