Hey guys new to here and to aquarium keeping. I have a 75gal tank that has been running flawlessly for about 6 months now except for algae growing on the glass cover. I clean it off whenever I notice it building up and it's more of a nuisance than a problem. Any ideas on what I can do to prevent this? The algae doesn't affect anything but the amount of light that gets into the tank and makes it have a green hue.

I just cleaned the tank but left a little for a pic, idea to post on here hit me after I had scraped most of it off

Yeah, but the only tanks that I get algae on the glass tops are the ones that I'm running an air stone in, the rest have sumps and it doesn't get on the glass. That being said.... nothing you can do to prevent it, gonna have to deal with it or add a sump so you don't need an air stone.........

If you got hob filters don't need an airstone or something that breaks the top of the water. Either way to a certain extent part of the deal with water and light. Could get a uv filter.

For sure. Definitely ways to minimize it. If you all gotta do is clean the glass tops off every month or so I wouldn't be to worried.

I get the same thing on my lids on my 125. I don't run an airstone. It grows really slow, I may wipe it off every 2-3 months.

My other tank has a sump, I don't ever get any algae growth on the underside of the lids.
