I have algae on the glass in my tanks. I've read that API AlgaeFix works really well. Has anybody ever used it? I already know I need to scrape the walls and vacuum which I will be doing tomorrow. I may also be leaving the lights on to long, but how will plants do if you don't leave the lights on enough?

I would try API AlgaeFix like you thought of trying; I'm sure it will do a marvelous job :)

Or what Amber suggested, getting some algae eating fish like siamese or chinese algae eaters & plecos

Any algae fix may kill inverts etc in the tank... so keep that in mind if you have any thing sensitive in your tank...

start using reverse osmosis water from this day forward when you do water changes and it will slowly convert your water from tap to R/O. it will take a lil but will work. light on for 8 to 10 hours at most a day. your algae problem will cut down probly 75%

Srub the tank, Keep the hours of light down, or just dont turn them on for a while. I dont like to add unnecessary chemicals in the water which would be worse than any algae bloom. Algae can actually be quite beneficial. If your looking for a fish to control algae I have found that nothing beats a flagtail prochilodus aka Fei Feng.
