Algae issues with T5s

When In doubt call the hydroponics guy! I called him up and he said that placing fresh cut willow branches into the tank would help get rid of algae. By sucking up extra phosphates and because of an acid in the branch that inhibits algae growth.

Now the real question has anybody done anything like this, and could it be harmful to fish?

Sounds legit....placing pothos roots into the water works well also....the roots absorb the nutrients but no demand for O2 or CO2...
