algae killer and peacock bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well algae usually means bad water chemistry! so do water changes!

but if you want to get rid of it! do not! use anything containg copper sulfate! for copper sulfate! if is even close to being not the perfect amount will kill your fish! warm water fish are most suseptible!

but try barley straw! it will not show you immediate results with barley straw! because it is algicstaic meaning it prevents the growth of new algae! but barley straw is the safest way! algicides(killing existing algae) can be very dangerous to fish!

but the reason barley straw works is because when it starts decomposing the fungus releases a byproduct chemical! this chemical prevents the growth of algae by hindering that part of the DNA!

is there a particular algae killer that is safe to use with peacock bass?? My sand has algae on it and :irked: yeah.

two words.. Mystery snails. i put 10 in my big tank and there is no more algae.. even the ugly black algae that we had before we changed the lighting is gone. took them about 4 weeks to completely clean my 150 gal aquarium. :headbang2

now i have to add algae disks for them and the plecos.. :D

bristlenose plecos are also very good algae eaters!

i have one male! and i put in some rocks with algae in the tank next day the agae was gone! they eat algae like crazy! but u probably shouldnt have them just eating algae! because algae is not very nutrious so every once and a while givee them some algae wafers and sinking pellets!
