today I was in the lfs and comparing the popular hikari algae wafers to these things made by OmegaOne called "veggie rounds" which are basically the same thing. I know lots of people use the hikari ones but I have never heard of the others. looking at the ingredients, surprisingly the veggie rounds look better at first. heres a list of the first few ingredients
"veggie rounds"
whole kelp, spirulina, whole salmon, halibut...
hikari algae wafers
fish meal, wheat flower, wheat germ meal, dehydrated alfalfa meal, starch...
the veggie rounds look much better, dont they? the only problem is that they have artificial colors and preservatives. So which ones better? you would think that the popular hikari ones would have better ingredients. what do you think?

Haven't tried the Omega Ones yet. I thought they were supposed to be pure and natural kelp.

Overall, the Omega One wafers have gotten a good reception from my & my roommates herbivores/omnivores. We generally use the New Life Spectrum wafers, as they do an excellent job of not dissolving quickly, and seemed to be enjoyed more than Hikari.

I've only used the Omega One wafers for a couple of days, but will probably switch over completely once my giant tub of NLS wafers gets used up.

Omega One brands are supposed to be better. I use Omega One brands for most of my fish foods (algae discs, shrimp pellets, flakes, etc.).

:iagree: Hikari has a name presence back in the day when Wardley and Tetra where your only options. Omega One and NLS are a better choice over Hikari...

Surprisingly, I prefer Wardley's Spirulina Discs. Quite a bit over Hikari's and NLS. The NLS discs are a good product, but I've found it takes a while to break up and some plecs don't like it ...
