At the moment, I do not have issues as I can just use a rubber hose to suck up the waste, which are predominantly away from the eggs

I checked on some sites that stated it shall be 3 days before the eggs hatch, and an additional 5 days before the fries start swimming. Is this the rule of thumb?
Wondering when I can do a proper clean up

Everyone does it differently. You can do it that way but make sure the PH and temperature is the same in the aquarium.
Don't forget to add Dechlorinator.
