algie?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah it was just fine until recently theyre not very big and the oscar only has one pectoral fin so he doesn't move around much, and my tank may be larger, it was custom built by some guy that told me it was a 55 gallon, but when I emptied my old 30 gallon into it , dident even fill it up halfway. I bought a test kit today and im good on everything axcept my ammoina was in the caution area so I put in some stuff that says it lowers that. and some algie clear, with the black out and the website on algie said no more than 8 hours of light a day and my lights are usually on way longer than that.

If you would like to know the volume of your aquarium measure it and fill in the form here

You will have to give or take a bit from the thickness of the glass

that seems ridiculously excessive.

that's ur opinion, not fact... :screwy:

$40 is not a lot of money to me.. that's how much my ''ridiculously excessive filtration'' cost...

adding an AC110 to anything would not be ridiculously excessive IMO.. .its like paying an extra $500 for $5,000,000 3rd party liability insurance..

the bottom line for having the extra AC110 and the extra insurance:
....im just trying to cover my ***.... in case things go terribly wrong....;)

where in the hell did you get a 110 gallon rated filter for 40 bucks? i live in ak dude its expensive up here. and yeah my tanks glass is really thick. my tank isnt green anymore i left the lights off for a day and put in some kill algie stuff at half dose cause i have crustaceans. and death sling what are your two fish you have in your 56? is it planted?

i got my AC110s from my friend, but u can find AC 110s for relatively cheap. u can buy them new for $80 .. however, there's lots good deals out there.
Ive seen my LFS sell them for $69.99CAN new.

i got 2 gulper catfish, heres my 56 gallon set up. its, 36'' X 18'' X 20'', the tank is tiled with Italian blue pearl Granite and the plants are fake.

well catfish have high metabolisms right? they look pretty cool. how big do they get? and whats with those tiles ive never seen anyone tile they're aquarium before. and my 90 gallon filter was 96 dollars here. I miscounted my convict cichlids there's only 6 and about ten babies, I'm getting an under gravel filter first chance I get. its still a little cloudy but the fish are happier, and my plecos are fighting

thanks, they get about 10'' (12'' MAX, which is rare). the tiles are Italian blue pearl granite. i wanted to go bare bottom but with style.. im glad ur looking into more filtration! but stay away from the under gravel filters.. their OK.. but there's so much better options out there... if i were u i would be looking at an Ac110 minimum.. realistically, u should get large canister filter with the bio load u have on that 55 gallon.. also, in the future u will need to find a new home for your Oscar. a 55 gallon wont cut it.

Wels catfish can reach 250lbs+ just thought I'd add that.

To me you are having problems with over cleaning the gravel. Your BB are not taking enough time to take hold. When gravel vacuuming you only need to lightly sweep your gravel other wise you'll kick start another cycle. Your gravel filters a lot more than you think.

You say it's a custom 55ish, even so your heading for over stocking hell later down the line. Depending on feed this could also be the problem.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I've had another thought, if it is algae then dark cycle the tank for 48 hours.

Wrap it in towels and allow no light to pass and it will die off, your filters will take a hit though so rinse them under used tank water afterward.
