I always liked these fish and might want to get a couple when my big tank is up and running. Anyone have good or bad experiences keeping them?

You do know that these start out in freshwater when they are small but require brackish water as they mature? People at the LFS often forget to mention this.

Wait you can keep one in a 55gallon? If so I think I might want to put one in my marine tank

how do you acclimate them?I wouldn't suggest one for a 55. It will fit in it, but a child can fit in a shoe box. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should
i wouldn't suggest just one.. they seem to like to be in pairs or more ... and 55 will not surffice for life.. and you do need to go brackish when they are about 5 to 6 inches...
