I always liked these fish and might want to get a couple when my big tank is up and running. Anyone have good or bad experiences keeping them?

You do know that these start out in freshwater when they are small but require brackish water as they mature? People at the LFS often forget to mention this.

That does complicate things and i wouldn't want to do a species only tank...

Not many people are expecting to end up with a brackish water tank when setting up a freshwater tank. I like these cats but haven't gotten one for that very reason.

i wouldn't suggest just one.. they seem to like to be in pairs or more ... and 55 will not surffice for life.. and you do need to go brackish when they are about 5 to 6 inches...
