It's not my design, it's based on Uaru Joey's design. I added a few more braces
His design is very adaptable like that. 2x4, 2x6, 4x4, whatever you require for your specific aquarium dimensions. Go check out his YouTube videos, you'll see :)Aloha.

I'm a big fan of Uaru Joey, his stuff is legit and his stands are simple and solid.

Here is a tank I got for free today, It sat on one of those "overbuilt" home made stands. It was 2x6 and 4x4 and it worked great until the back glass seperated and 220 gallons hit the floor.

You fellas keep building them out of pine lumber and I'll be ready to collect the pieces when they bust open. This is the second tank this month I've seen break on a home made stand but to each his own.View attachment 840821

this tank is too tall for the material used. i dont care if you filled it up on a level cement floor it would have exploded just the same. I can tell its not a standard 210 just from the pic. way too tall for that glass. Factory made tanks explode/crack/leak on a daily basis let alone homemade/custom, its only a matter of time. Nothing lasts for ever, espically glass. I could kick a hole right through the side of your plywood walls and your tank would come crashing down. your not kicking holes through 2x4's. Imo steel is the best material for stands, outlasts wood any day of the week and its lighter to carry when its all said and done. Unlevel stands of any material are a better cause of explosions than suggested 2x4 lumber. If plywood is so strong why do you brace it on the inside lol????

Ya... This looks like bashing. I learned a little bit about materials as I prepare to build my own stand. Tanks do just kinda go out like tires though. you can only take so good care of them. I've been buying broken aquariums and fixing them with glass from other broken aquariums to sell for spending money. Every story I hear is funny. Hit it with a sledge hammer... Woke up to water everywhere... I don't know how this happenned, I think my fish is dangerous...

i have never used any framing timber in my builds just traditional cabinet making ...i dont think there is any need for the 4x2 frames

Super necro post but there is nothing wrong with 2x4s. You can build a quality stand out of framing lumber as well as plywood. You can also build crummy stands out of both. I would say that for price framing lumber has the edge. For looks plywood is probably the winner. Different strokes for different folks. It's like watching people argue about whether red is a better color than blue.

I use 4x2 for peace of mind. Never had any problems?
I prefer overkill rather than it should be ok
This is my current stand I'm building

Technically it's part of the stand.
2.5" × 3/16 steel.

1.5" 14 Guage steel.

I would not try this with wood.
75 gallon stacked
It's DIY, but I am a welder by trade.
