Good Luck to all you guys if you happen to successfully keep your Salminus with ANY other fish...... I mean ANY OTHER fish. I have been keeping Dorados for awhile now and have not been successful. Every dorado I have kept have dismantled, be-headed, Tattered, Gougde'd, Gashed, Ripped, Crashed and some, just about every fish I have tried with them. I have had just about every "main" predator fish whether they are open water predator, community predator, close-nit territorial predator,,,,whatever. Dorados always succeeds in f@!kin them up... Bad. (ATFs, Dovii, Hoplias, Jardini, Emperor Cichlids, Cichla, RTC, TSN, Muskies, Channel CAtfish, Hydrolycus, Spatula Gar, Bullhead Catfish, Midas, Motaguense, Managuense, Tilapia, Aba Aba and I am sure I forgot some) My dorado is now about 27" and of course SOLITARY. Whatever you guys do just be careful and pay close attention... Good Luck:)

27 inch Dorado! yes see some pics of that monster.

Mine is only about 7 inches He has only killed some silver dollor's so far. But he picks on just about everyone... except for my poly's and 9 inch it dat and 9 inch bicuda.

i've had luck mixing them with various fish. Helps to first have a larger shoal of dorados as they keep one another busy. However a single dorado kept with shoal of larger odoes worked out ok. For tank mates avoid those similar in both color/shape, significantly smaller in size, solitary shoaling fish (for example 1 odoe or 1 silver dollar), or do not like fast moving clumsy tank mates. For example didn't work well with ATF nor Tarpon. All of the above photos are from crowded tanks which tells me density probably helps. Have had dorado kill dorado but only when size difference was significant and in these cases, think tank population density was a factor, ie not crowded enough.
