28 pages and not a lot of different pics. are dorado really that hard to come by? I've got one that's 8-9" and he's a sweet fish. but I didn't think they were that rare to the hobby.

I'll post pics sometime but not right now.

I don't think that they are that rare.... Just seasonal.

For some reason it seams they are worth thier weight in gold just like a lot of other Characins. Buy them at 2-3 inches for $35 and bam as soon as they hit 7-8 they are worth 4-5 times what they are when you bought them. I haven't really figured out this logic but whatever.... The way of the fish game I guess. :screwy:

I'm curious to see what age they turn into the "monsters" that shred anything in the tank.... The reputation they are so well known for.

In MY experience with Dorado..... Started with a group of 4. Grew like mad. 2 jumped the divider and got eaten by rays. The remaining 2 had to be seperated from eachother. They had been seperated for probobly close to 3 months. Maybe grew an inch each. Reunited them with a larger one..... I think they have grown more in the last few weeks then in the last few months. MUCH happier, active and appetite is 10 fold when kept in a group.....

those are some nice lookers. ^^^

mine shreded any fish that resembled their shape/shine even at small sizes. but it seems the more there are in the shoal, the less naughty they are. Kept similar sized tarpons in a tank with them for a while. Just a bit of fin nipping. have seperated and will reunite when tarpon are larger.

has anyone here shoaled 12"+ fish?

Sellers always answer me when I ask that: 1) airfreight or 2) cost to feed and keep them to get to that size.

I'm currious too.

In my experience they aren't tank jumpers. Anyone had problems with this? Im debating on whether to put them in the pond.

Thank you.....

Maybe I will have luck mixing mine then.... Maybe upbringing has something to do with the way they act later in life??? Maybe a community upbringing will make them more likely to be able to be housed with other fish when they are adults.....

There is a vid on U tube of someone with 3 Dorado that appear pretty good size (foot and a half)...... I have heard of a few others but no proof.

Needless to say I haven't heard of many success stories. The story that intimidates me most is that Oddball had a shoal of 6 and ended up with one...... I don't ever dare think I can accomplish something Oddball didn't- that would be crazy talk from a mere mortal..... :screwy: Oddball = Chuck Norris of the fish world.

oh yea i read that a while back. they kept eating one another right?

my dorados are from different batches, at different times, sometime a month apart and while I notice some are more alpha than others, as long as they are the same size, it's ok. I introduced a pair of significantly smaller dorado, say 4 inch verus 6 inch and one dissapeared!. My guess is fish within 80% of avg size of shoal is ok. Well if mine get that large, I've got 8... or 7 can't remember, will update at some point.

on tank jumping, how are dorados. They don't seem the type to do it, they're too selfish.

feeding my arrow today, mealworms on a tweezer. those Ba$tard dorados jumped out of the water and stole the worms right off tweezer. Opportunistic devils. Odoes were roaming the top for treats as well. The arrow was NOT happy.
