28 pages and not a lot of different pics. are dorado really that hard to come by? I've got one that's 8-9" and he's a sweet fish. but I didn't think they were that rare to the hobby.

I'll post pics sometime but not right now.

yea i agree, it's seasonal. at one point every lfs and their mothers had them. prices plummeted. but it seems to skip years here. when there's a lot of red tail var. the golds are rare and vice versa.

on tank jumping, how are dorados. They don't seem the type to do it, they're too selfish.

I think the only reason mine jumped the divider I had in my pond is cause it was so low and the smaller rays enjoyed climbing the walls. Probobly spooked the Dorado and the low divider made for an easy escape..... Into thier demise in the belly of the big rays....Or at least that's what I assume happened based on all the glitter.

In MY experience.... Larger scaled fish are fine... Odoes, gar, flagtails, polys. They seem tough enough the rays just role them around. Smaller scaled fish (the kind that leave glitter in the tank) Payara, Dorodo and such are easily wounded and in turn easy for the ray to kill.

Yes if it fits under the disk and the ray is able to pin it down there's a chance they will be lunch, or at least wounded more then likely severely.

Depends heavily on the fish itself and the ray itself. I have had WAY more issues with wild caught rays attacking fish then captive bred rays. In fact I don't think I've ever had a captive bred attack. I have also had a lot more trouble with fish that have attitudes (Armatus) getting attacked. More then likely they have NO fear of the ray and therefore don't swim away from the ray. Skittish fish seem a lot less prone to attacks.

Here goes my baby Salminus Maxillosus aka Golden Dorado.

He is 3" and growing like a beast. I got him last Friday and he has grown 1/2" already:naughty:.

I feed him 3times a day... Live blood worms, Brime shrimp, Pellets, Beef Heart, Flakes, Guppies, Frozen Veggies (from a variety pack) and Freeze Dried Krill (small pcs).

I have to say, so far... I am Loving this fish!

When I first got him, he had no color on his tail. Now, he has red and yellow showing in almost his whole tail:naughty: (Pics dont even show a lil of it:irked:)
Very nice, what size tank is he in now?

Latest update on mine. He's 12" and showing a Lot of gold already his fins are already solid and his gill plates are solid. His scales are slowly filling in. He's a far cry from what he looked like when i got him at around 5"
