Here are close up view of two different species commonly known as "Green Terror". Note that the scale pattern, like tiles, are very different between the two species. which is a better way to ID the two species. The shape of the fins are also different, one has long flowing fins and the other has the sickle shape dorsal fin that looks like crooked. Initially, both species were imported, but the more attractive gold edge species, known as "gold saum", soon replaced the less attractive white edge species in captive bred strain. The color of the edge is not a sure way to ID the species because some "gold saum" morph has white edge. Blue Acara is another closely related species and has been around for as long as Jack Dampsey and shouldn't be mistaken as GT except for ignorant store managers. "Gold saum" and "white saum" are meaningless name for GT as they are not scientific name, and some "gold saum" have white edge. Captive bred GT, like Midevil, is a blend in mixed species with unknown geniology.
