I have an 8x3x2 I'm in the process of Switching up. I've always wanted to run peacocks, but I know they can be quite hard to find the specific bunch specially in all males that actually get along. I have the funds to get at least 30 off the bat from the same place as well. All ranging from 3-4 inches. To all my experience keepers with peacocks. What would be the best way to go about this. And what would be the quantity that would be good for a 8x3x2?

I would shoot for 24 individuals (ones that mature at or less than six inches) and remember they need to look nothing alike. So you will not find 24 different peacocks...one red, one blue, one yellow and there is not much else. Turkis if you can find one. You are going to have to add haps as well and even then 24 different fish is challenging.

You can do some of the larger haps with an 8 foot tank and that will lower your requirement for 24 individuals.

It's not that they don't get along, although that happens. It's that they don't color up and then what is the point?

I figured it was going to be complicated...I read horror stories about trying to get it all to work but when it does the tank looks amazing.. right if they don't color up then yea what's the point.. crap now I'm re thinking this idea.. if I were to try is 24 the total number with haps? So basically since you won't find 20 plus different peacocks you gotta just hope they done go at each other? Ide hate to spend the money all half drop dead

I can get my hands on 4 or 5 turkis as well

One of each and no look likes.

Beware amazing tanks you see on youtube. You don't know if they have been peacefully living together for 2 years...in the first 24 hours of adding fish it SHOULD all look amazing.

Some people (I have never done it, not a fan of male tanks) with 8 foot or larger tanks do 3 of each species. So 12 peacocks (3 blue, 3 yellow, 3 red, 3 turkis) and 9 haps (3 Protomelas taiwan reef, 3 Otopharynx tetrastigma, 3 Placidochromis electra).

Like I shared on your other thread it can be costly to find the right balance.
Always add as many new fish at once as you can.
Always add at lights out or cover the tank.
The bottom line in an all male tank is there will ALWAYS be aggression and chasing. It is par for the course.
There will almost always be a skinny sunken belly fish or 2. It’s just life in an all male tank of peacocks and haps.
I had 60-70 full sized peacocks, haps and predators in my 10’ 500 gal tank for about 3 years. The reason why I moved away from it was the losses. Heart breaking and expensive.
An all male peacock & hap tank will not be peaceful, and is not for the faint hearted or shallow pocketed individuals 🤙🏼

What other thread?? Lol I think that's a different person maybe?
Yeah that's why I ask you guys who have the experience in this! They are definitely expensive fish and wanna try to go about it right. But I will weigh the options on this now and see if it is a route I now wanna try and take. Thanks for all the feedback and help as always!

You are right. My bad. It was this thread;

Should I check out cichlid lovers as well? I have someone I get fish from that is good but I always enjoy making new relationships with fellow fish people lol

Alan has a good quantity of malawi males that you can buy for a really good price. His shipping is well priced also. I would recommend him highly!
