I've been running 2 sponges in my AC500 (110) for years. The second sponge will collect 70% as much dirt as the first sponge. It is helpful if you ask me.
I rinse my AC sponges on a weekly basis so not sure how much a second would help. Maybe adding a finer filter media would work. Personally I like having the extra bio media just in case.
