All my cats, I've got problems

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well it seems that moving the rocks may have helped, but I can not know for sure because it only affected the cats which have been removed or died. My TSN is doing great in the hospital tank but will need to be removed sooooon, I'm scarred to move him back. Any advise? Could never find any thing bad with water that I could test.

How big is your hospital tank? Because if you're worried about size....and if money is available.... check out craigslist, you could find a 40g breeder or a 38 or something like that for $40 with a bunch of stuff. Just a temporary tank of course but maybe a good start till your tank is up and running again.

It's a 29g, he is just a little cramped. I have a 75g that I'm not using I may set up for a bit, till i think it's safe to put him back. thanks for the thought though.

OMG im having the same problem with my tank right now i had over 10 peacock bass die on me due to hard breathing theres nothing really stressing them out but they seem like there not hungry and all my fish are mellow and not active even my pacu is not active anymore normally hes the most active during feeding

thats the problem about testing the water, we trust our water supply to be free of so and so.... but I sometimes read horror stories of people changing their water and having the whole tank-full tank die on em due to the water company doing something during that time... as well as certain sections of the city having problems with their tanks and other sections not having any issues when doing water changes

Some people suggest to have the water sit for 24 hours to solve several issues before adding them into the tanks. But most of us do not have the space to store water to be able to do that with our larger tanks.

MY suggestion is to go to any store and get a kiddy pool to temp house your TSN to give it room to swim about in. Just make sure its covered and it doesn't jump out. Don't need to limit yourself to tanks - rubbermaid tubs do work great, etc, many MFKers have done the kiddy pool/rubbermaid tub route many times over and over.

The issue could be anything at this point it could have been the rocks, combination of the rocks and lack of aeration etc

diffuser looks so similar to an airstone you probably have seen it before when getting the airstone but its more pricy. With a bigger stock its worth the investment. Its more effective than an airstone which lets bigger bubbles go fast up to the surface, the diffuser tend to release littler bubbles and float slower to the surface encouraging more exchange. Though there are different versions of the diffuser, it basically can be used the same way.

Thought I would post on my final concusion of this issue to help others in the future.
The final resolution was to remove the rocks, as they drastically lowered the PH in a very short time. My normal hardness of my tap is 7.8ish and the rocks lowered it to lower than 6, to low to read with my test. I tested the rocks in bin, started with a 7.6 ph and in two days less than 6 ph, just like I saw in the tank. Weird thing is initially the rocks did not affect the PH as much for the first three weeks, like something activated them?
