What technique are you referring to? Is it stickied here? I would really like to read it and give it a go with my 2 guys. Your fish are awesome looking btw man.

What age / size should these guys be before weening them from live? I bought mine on 4.11.12 at this size:

@ Monster peacock.. imma resend the PM check it out.. only you man with your crazy setups dont even realaize your phone was sitting in your tank.. lol

@ Oscar .. def would like a xingu n azul just chillin out right now with what i got .. when then get closer to 10" 12" mark i will thin the heard out prob an keep the elite of the group and then get more to replace i want to have a nice rare an top pick group lol so far so good.

@ itsKRUDD .. the technique that monster showed me an has worked for him many many times an worked for me.. is to get them on rosie reds.. start feeding one at a time make sure they all eat, then after a couple days keep some rosies in a 5 gallon pail with air line take one at a time out cut in half an drop one piece at a time untill that go for it.. they should take it because the rosie was fresh.. if they dont take it go back to feedin live rosie after 2 -3 days of tryn fatten up an repeat i bet by first or second week itll work. once they take cut rosie you can swtich to cut frozen silverside wich is much cheaper an easier.. from there the options are endless but key is only drop one piece at time let them want it an fight for it. so far it has def worked for me. as for size an when to start... there are ALOT of MIXED talk on this.. some people say dont start till 6" 8" 10" whatever as MOnster always told me every cichla is diff. i tryed this method at 3" 3.5" and it worked for me so i say give it a shot for a couple days

Awesome. The last 100 feeders I bought these guys were actually roseys and I plan on picking up a few today. I feed them one at a time as it is, always have. So they hit the fish at the top of the water 99% of the time unless they're already getting full. I've even snuck some dead ones in there that I find stuck to the filter when I wake up lol. I'll try cutting them in half today. Will this method eventually work to go to pellets?

As I've always fed my guys one at a time to encourage top water / fast feeding, tonight when I picked up some feeders, 15 to be exact I dropped one live one in first across the tank to get them going. I then proceeded to cut fish in half and drop them in fairly hard to try and promote flailing to get them to strike. It worked very well for the first like 6. Both halts were always eaten. Then one spit out a tail. I cut up another, dropped them in and it was eaten. My last one I cut up and they didn't take the head part so I left it floating. It was still kind of breathing and my bigger guy eventually went up and ate it! Oh in the middle of their feeding I dropped another live one in to keep up their attention just in case. I'll continue this routine for a week or so, dropping in the first live and rest cut up. After a week I'll give it a go at half cut half frozen see how it works. Thanks for the tips!
