I recently set up a loach tank and moved all my loached to the 55. The ammonia, nitrite and nitrate stayed 0 and pH was the same. The temp was the same at the time of the move but i later moved it from 78-82*. All the driftwood, plastic plants and bamboo hideouts came from the 150 that they were previously in. The only thing they got new was the tahitian moon sand, javamoss and some amazon sword. All these new things were in with the black rhom before. Ive tested the water over and over and ive lost 4 Clowns in 2 weeks. These clowns were 3-4" and have been doing fine for months before the move. At the time of the move all my clowns broke out in ich but ive treated it before, no problems. Ive never lost a fish to ich. This time is different, they got it reall bad and its not getting any better. They also darkened up really good and are not eating as well. They dead ones looked like the got the skinny disease and died. I dont know what to do other than move them back. Im guessing there's something in the tank that's bothering them. The moss ball has a lead weight and ive noticed that the Tahitian moon sand is attracted to the Mag-Float. could they be leaching heavy metals? That is my only guess unless someone used some chemical long ago in the tank and its leaching out. Any suggestions?

Heres that i've got:
55g tank with glass lids
350 marineland biowheel
250w marineland stealth heater
2 powerheads (chinese knockoffs)
Magfloat
2 pcs mopani driftwood
2 pcs petco DW on slate
2 plastic plants
2pcs of cut bamboo
some fists sized river rock
live amazon sword
Petco java moss ball
marimo ball
FISH:
Now 5 CL
3 yoyo
1 boarder loach
1 madtom catfish
1 peacock eel

I've never seen nor heard of substrate attracted to the magnets before. Heavy metals can easily take a toll on scaleless fish. Toehead, is it possible for you to test copper with a copper test kit?

I dont have a copper test but i'm going to bring some water to a friend at Petco and see what he can test for.

Why are your nitrates at 0? Was the tank you moved them into cycled? Nitrates should never be at 0.

tank had been running for about a year. If you do adequate water changes and dont overfeed, your nitrates should be undetectible. Plus i only had one black rhom in there before the clowns went in and i only feed him on mondays. i wont say 0, how about 0-5ppm

Lot of times the sand makes a good hidout for the ich. It you swirl the intake on your syphon right above the sand you can agitate the sand without sucking it out of the tank.

Well i had my water tested and nothing came up. I removed the fish and put them back in the 150 and am now treating it for ich. The 55 is circulating tap water for a week before i try again
