The only thing i can personally see being wrong is your test kit possibly being inaccurate?

Most people here will recommend the API liquid test kit as its more accurate compared to most other brands...

But overall, as most have said, the only problem i can see is something in your water cuasing problems?

Lastly, since i don't think any one has asked yet, what are you water change schedules like?
i ry to do a 25-30% change everyweek and a 100% change every month or so

^ Do you do the whole 100% water change in one go? coz if you do, maybe thats whats causing the problems?

BTW, another question is, what size tanks have you been keeping these fish in, and how many at a time? coz that might be another potential problem?

When I put my marine ish through hypo salinity (pretty much dropping the salinity to brackish levels) I found my hydrometer became very inaccurate, so I invested the $ in a refractometer. It is worth the cash if you ask me.

I can't think of any reason I would do a 100% water change. Even the time when my wife poisoned my tank with skeeter repellent! I did several 50% changes over the course of the day. They had already been shocked enough with the poison. (It was a new wife)

What about too many puffers in one tank?
I thought u should only keep one by itself?.

****EDIT*** just realized this is a necromancing thread and the thread starter last communications was ...... 07-11-2011 5:07 AM*****

leave th post up for info anyway......

Please clarify 100% per month..... do you clean filter media in tap water at the same time ? Basically resetting the tank to new cycle syndrome? also how do you acclimatize new fish and do you know the parameters they were kept in in the shop, and how long they were there (also important to know) ?

For instance its common to ship marine fish at lower pH and they need to be acclimatized in the shop for sale... Often brackish fish are imported in fresh water and do not need to be stressed... Its actually very unusual to find brackish tanks in Fish shops as its a hybrid between FW and SW that does not support the effort for most outlets. We edge our puffer(s) to brackish as appropriate and the rate is important by steps of 0.02 on a slow (weekly basis) depending on the original situation (osmotic pressure).
