All of my non-fish critters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Buying is not rescuing it sounds sad but your just making them believe there is a higher demand so they'll just order more.

Come on people, now let's be nice. All she is trying to do is show others her other non fishy animals. Why does MFK have to start something every time a thread is made. If she wants to call it rescueing by all means let her.

I have RESCUED Oscars from my Petsmart that I work at.Yes I do mean I have bought them. When the large Oscars get big they reduce them down to half off, but if you ask you can get them for a few dollars, also they will sell them to anyone, they don't care if you have a 10 gallon tank or a 75, it doesn't matter. I have bought them because I know I would rather have them in a 75 then in a 10 gallon and end up dying of HITH or anything else. I chose to buy them because they could end up being in a bad situation. Yes I agree that means their replenishment system will see that two were sold and they will get in two more. I'm a simple man though, I don't have time for all Oscars of the world, I save two and maybe 5 more die, it's life I do what I can with what is happening now. Simple as that.

Shadowtheblacklab, great pics. The turtle is going to love that tank, where you keep him now. Surely not the bath tub, lol. Nice dogs, they loop happy.:) Thanks for posting and Rescueing the Leo's.:)

oops, sorry, forgot to check this thread :P

Packer- Thank you! Yes, I am currently keeping her in the bathtub (we have another upstairs) she's a biploar little thing. Sometimes she'll be all social, and then the next day she's hissing at you again, lol. The dogs will be much happier once Embyr's stitches are out, then they can go and run and play again. Leos were my first reptile (other than catching snakes and stuff as a little person), they are very special to me :)

lol who is going to rescue the oscars from you? :banher:

they are all so cute! im glad to see someone else who rescues pets to give them better lives! you rock..

A word on the leos...i worked at petco for a while. The store has to have a certain number in stock at all times as they are one of the popular animals the store thinks it needs to sell. If she did not buy it it would end up in the "wellness room" with the sick/injured/dying. Then a slight chance it gets a vet appointment, likely not though. And will continue to parish and get neglected as the store is likely understaffed. They would order another regardless. Hell when i worked there i think they came in automatically, we must have had 50 of the them at one point.

Thats just my impression of how things operated when i was there. 'Bad' shipments would come in all the time, this is a reoccurring sight. And petco will order more and let them die regardless of how they sell, because around the corner is another sale on them.

Two Oscars can live in a 75 for quite awhile. I will get another 75 when they getter bigger. No biggie there, another excuse for a tank is always a good thing. There at most 6 in. right now.

Same at the petsmart that I work at. They take them into the "Quiet Room"(same as your wellness room) and they try to get it healthy again, while they already ordered another Leo because they know that one isn't going to make it. At least in our store they will try to adopt them out if they have a fighting chance. Still it sucks.

So if nobody bought a leo they would still stock them? I think not. Even though its just one more person not purchasing a sick leo it still helps when you say your not going to help Petco out by not giving them your sale. I am pretty sure most people here have *****ed about Walmart selling fish. This is the same concept.

I'm not saying that. Of course they wouldn't. Just like the new fish Petsmart gets. If it doesn't sell they reduce them to clear and get new ones.

I could care less about the whole Walmart/Petsmart/petco selling fish thing. If I want a fish at walmart and I can house it and maintain it, I'm going to buy it. Everyone goes crazy about this subject. Fish die it sucks to see them house it like that but I can't stop them. Plus like I already said, IDC really. Stuff happens, fish die at Walmart get mistreated at petsmart/Petco, whatever. I care about my fish, I agree it's inhumane how these places keep these fish all cramped up and etc. but I have better things to worry about if a goldfish dies at Walmart.

I know it's MFK and all, and I love my fish and I know we all like keeping fish and etc. It's a fish though, a fish. Simple as that.

Sorry Shadowtheblacklab for going in the wrong direction to your thread.:( Not trying to start anything with anyone else.
