All stingray keepers I need help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OKay I wrote this on my other thread listed above but I will put it on here to:
Okay I got 3.5 lbs of crushed coral. My ph is at 6!!! tank is 135g how much should I put in and can I just throw it in on top of the sand after washing it? Also do I still do a water change?

I just posted on your other thread too.. When i added coral i filled one tray of my FX5 with coral then threw the rest in my wet/dry.. But i have to admit it hasn't done much. My ph is still around 6 too.

agree w above..... water changes and monitor feeding. Whats is the PH of water out the tap? Unless your on well should be higher than 6, if so need to decrease feeding and perform more water changes. GL

You don't wanna put crushed coral on top of the sand. It's usually pretty sharp and will hurt your rays.

If you can't put the coral in the filter somehow, you could probably get a fry net and put some coral in that near to the outflow of the filter.

But personally, I'd get some serious water changes going. The advice that you don't need to do water changes until the Nitrate hits 40 can be tossed in the garbage can - water changes are for more than just reducing Nitrate. Since you already did 50% and the fish survived it, I'd do another 50% - hopefully that'll add enough Kh to get things stable and work out how to maintain the Kh going forward.

ph 6 is still ok for your stingray.. the most important is stability. If you wish to raise the PH to 7, you need to do it slowly and gradually.
you can add sodium bicarbonate .. bit by bit.. in a period of 2-3 days..to reach 7..
but my advise..if it aint broke..dont fix it...you risk your fish to unnecessary stress
