It's kind of strange that shovelnose never got into the aquarium trade. They were used as the model for subsequent breeding of other sturgeon and the US Gov recommended they be sold into the pet trade but they never were. Now almost all the shovel nose go into restocking programs and sturgeon ranching in Asia for caviar because they grow so fast and mature so quickly.
