i drove around LA (haven't been in a longtime) to visit good fish stores I used to go to, they're all gone! Tried to search more with my navigation, but it's mostly pet stores and petco/petsmarts.... WTF?!

Which ones closed?

Retail space is ridiculously expensive. If they don't own the building or have a really cheap long term lease they can't afford to stay open! Sad, but true!

A few I don't remember the names to, some on Wilshire, some in south LA, and Fumi's on pico.

The ones I didn't like are still open... They have terrible standards in fishkeeping and yet they stay in business....

Fumi's is gone? Oh, wow! I liked to shop there when I lived in Korea town for a while.

With box stores moving in on everything indepedant stores can't compete. The other thing is the internet. When a store has to pay for retail space it's a huge overhead, internet stores might have a warehouse in some low rent area, or may just drop ship straight from the manufactorer.

Is Aquarium City in Canoga still open? They had some good stuff.

Lucky for Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Hampton areas in VA, Animal Jungle is largely visited and never have slow moments. Advertising helps business a lot too.

Yeah but I prefer buying fist at a store, you get to SELECT your own fish. And paying/waiting for shipping is a PITA.

They had a fire last year and will be open again in a month supposedly...

So they're coming back? Hope so, they usually had a large selection, even if the prices weren't the best. Plus that lady always gave me discounts.
