hey guys im new around here and i am in the process of starting my first marine tank (120g) with my girl friend and we are a big fan of all things eels. As such i was wondering if you guys have any helpful hints and pointers for first time eel owners. We are looking at getting two eels for our 120g FOWLR tank, probably a zebra moray and either a ribbon of some sort or a snake eel as the second one.
I hear that they are pretty docile and as long as the other fish in the tank arent smaller than the eels mouth they should be fine. Anything else i should know? like how hard it is to get them to eat, should i put some pvc piping into the substrate for them to hide in? anything you can think of will help me out massively, thanks in advance!

ribbon and snake eels have a low rate of survival in aquariums. MAny die in only a few months. I would suggest just getting the zebra, since they grow to a decent size.

i believe so. they arent very common in the trade anyway. [maybe not in stores, but in tanks]
there are lots of beginner morays to choose from though
the zebra is a great one. snowflakes, fimbriatus, gray...
anything that gets around 2' really. feeding shouldnt be a problem with morays.
the PVC network is a fine idea IMO. i'm planning on using one in the future.
remember to get a lid!

Personally for a 120 gallon tank - I would suggest sticking with the smaller Morays (3' or less) or the Echidna eels such as the well-known Snowflake Eel. These tend to be Small is size, but Hardy & colorful species.

thanks for the help guys, im not going to get a ribbon at this point i dont think too many people have said it wont eat and will die pretty quickly. And im just not a fan of the snow flake eel so ill find something else.

This should probably be moved to general salt. Since eels are not a shark or a ray its off topic anyway. You will get more advice and people reading it in another section since this is in the shark and ray section. I'm not a mod but I think someone should move this.

My first choice would be a trigger in with an eel, second choice would be a large tang.
I've seen a tank with a dragon moray (hey- you should get one of those!) and a large niger trigger, the two made a nice effect together.
