All time favorite fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I remember you having several of those f/w moray eels and among the first on MFK. How large did you grow them out and how long did you have them for?

Had 3 that i kept for around 3+ years... cant remember exactly how long i kept them till i had to sell all my fish due to moving...

They all grew pretty well once they started eating regularly with the smallest of the bunch going from about 8-10” to around 15”+ when i eventually sold him...

he caught it on a night crawler I'm pretty sure.
I'm pretty sure they are asking for a full scientific name not just part of one. Ik I looked up that name and got tons of different results which most of them being plants and animals that don't live in the US natively.

Mine is a toss up between the Vieja Zonatus, and the Guttulatus.

Years ago a LFS owner walked me to a tank with a small silvery looking fish. I had asked for something different and with bright colors. She told me the fish was probably a Zonatus or Guttulatus but she wasn't sure. A guy out of Dallas brought in some unexpected. This was in Austin TX.

I took her home and she quickly grew and into her well deserved nickname "Cyco." I had hoped it would be a male but in the end it didn't matter because I feel in love with that fish!

Looking back im guessing it was a Guttulatus because 2 or 3 years later I made an order through Don Conkel and got a male Zontaus and loved that fish too. The Guttulatus made several trips from state to state because I moved so many times. The Zonatus made a few trips too.

I just loved their personality and colors

Let's hear yalls stories

That’s an easy one...Wide Bar Dats (D. Puncher).

If I had to pick a favorite fish it would be Lepomis Humilis, a.k.a. the orange spotted sunfish. Lol never kept any as pets but imo they would make the perfect small tank cichlid replacement due to their cichlid like behaviors and their extravagant colors. Here's a pic of a male that's getting close to max size. Not my pic it's from Google lol.

wdym by that?

A quick search and I found this. Luke Ovgard does indeed hold the world record for the vieja zonata, though he caught it in Utah, not Montana, according to the info below. I thought vieja were SA, have they been introduced that far north, accidently or otherwise?

Huh interesting, I'd be curious to find the answer to the as well. I didn't think there was any in the US except maybe in Florida but then again florida has everything from a pet shop running around loose somewhere lol.
