Alligator fish

Sorry I do not have a pic right now. I was in the lfs and seen this neat fish kind of looks like an alligator it face does its not a gar. It has weird habits like hanging upside down suspended, floating on the top like its dead, stuck to a branch of wood like a pleco they just called it an alligator fish but all I can find by that name is gars. Anyone have ant ideas what it is. Ps it sure is cleaning up my excess convict babies its fast. Lays there like its dead then strikes.

look up crazy fish, its another one of their common names.

Sounds like Butis butis, if I remember correctly they're an ambush predator from Australia. They're usually called crocodile fish.

neat fish i would love to have one.

Thanks guys I looked it up seems its brackish but its been in fresh water at the lfs so I quess I will introduce it to salt slowly I have a 20 gal long I can make brackish for now .
