i thought they could live way older. i read a couple sites that said they grow about 20-24 inches the first yr then only like an inch a yr after that. for them to get 8-10 feet long that would put them at 72+ yrs! but it is the internet so its not always 100 percent accurate soooooooo......... im sure they grow faster in captivity
Well over one hundred years is recorded on a regular basis. These guys will outlive there keepers. The big one I have is over 60 already and still going strong.
zoodiver's has probably been at his job for that long. I'm sure he has a good idea how old his is. I know they can make 30 years easy, at least once they get past that 4-5' range and not much else will eat them.
