Alligator Gar Update

I would try market talapia if I were you. Its really cheap. I've started sticking massivore and carni-sticks in the pieces I give my gar and Poly's. They all destroy talapia. You can get a bag of carni sticks that is just over a pound for around $35 online. Not bad considering how long it will last. Once you have the gar on pellets you shouldn't look back. Feeder fish are the worst thing you can feed any fish. Will most certainly lead to an early check out of life. Jumbo carni-sticks are a well rounded, complete diet. I would add talapia as a treat, and hide spirulina in if you can.

So do you just start off with tilapia and once he starts eating that hide the massivore in it and eventually just feed straight up pellets? If so how long will the whole process take? As in what time periods am I looking at? I.e. 2-3 weeks straight tilapia then 2-3 weeks tilapia+pellet and then pellets after that? Thanks.

Gator gars , if starved go for almost everything.(even koi sticks) But seeing you have feeders already in there with him, it might take a while....definitely the fastest growth rate among all the other gars...be careful tho...it might break your back and your wallet to feed him once he strikes about 40~50cm;)

Hey was just wondering what you were doing for filtration for this guy? As in what you are using for media and rate of flow.

Thanks
