Listen, I know you guys probably had heard or saw people or videos saying oscars, datnoids and peacock bass can be kept with an alligator gar, for lifelong time. Which I found to be utterly BS and not true at all. So in you guys' opinions and experiences, what fish species you'd say would able to live with an alligator gar for lifelong? Let's assumed the sizes of the alligator gar and the tank mates that you guys will be recommending me to be at their 'usually maximum size they can possibly get in captivity'.

It comes down to the personality of your animals. Some Allis just really like biting other fish and there is not much you can do about it. But for the more calm ones there are quite a number of fish you can out them with, they just need to be tanky or aware enough to not end up biten. And plenty of space to avoid contact also helps.

If they are big enough, other gars are an option. I haven't done it myself but seen it plenty of times. The Zoo of my city has an exhibit with alligators and the regular spotted/florida since many years.

Some strong personality cichlids will also work suprisingly well. My old Creni Zebrina female ended up bullying an entire tank of alligators, and l heard similiar stories from midas.

I am also certain, and correct me if I am wrong, that large tanky catfish like RTCs should be fine aswell. The are way to big to be seen as food and share a different area of the tank.
