what body of water actually freezes solid? :nilly:
a small pond like the one being talked about in this thread
and i've seen gars in small ponds in Iowa and figured that they some how survived the temp i was thinking that the problem would be if the ice got down far enough it might trap the fish but if allways been told that gars can survive cold water and i've never had a reason to dought that

my parents have a 1000 gallon koi pond in PA. the small pond freezes over every year and the fish do fine. small ponds (big enough to house a gator gar) would not freeze solid in the winter time although i would still never put a gator gar in one.

my alligator gar which was 2 foot long died after 2 nights in air conditioning. so clearly u fish would persih in 5 mins of ice.
are you shere it was the temp? sorry to hear thow
but i had a pond that froze solid here in colorado during a blizared it depends how deep and how long it stays cold the water was 24'' deep at the deepest which isn't very deep but i know every year back in Iowa the lakes and ponds freeze enough too were you can drive trucks arcross
and one pond only got 6'-7' deep at the deepest and there was alot of gars in there but i know it doesn't freeze sold but it can get pretty close
