So as some of you may know, my Fluval 204 finally crapped out a few weeks ago when the canister cracked.
Well, I had it disconnected but left the intake and output hoses on and attached to the intake and output, that were still in the tank. I thought I might be able to use the hoses and parts with my new filter. Well, I got the filter and finally had some time to install it today.
Long story short, I ended up not using the old hoses and connections and took them out. I took them over to my kitchen sink and started dumping the water out and one of my eels popped out!!! Then, a half second later, my other one popped out on the other side of the sink!!! It so happened then I swapped the hose to the other side of the sink before the second eel popped out and so I had one on each side.
I immediately started going for the one on the garbage disposal side first and while I was getting him, the other one slithered down one of the tiny drain holes on the other side. I got the first one back in the tank, which is on the complete other side of the house, and came back to see what I was going to have to do to get the drain pipe out from under the sink. Luckily, somebody had installed a PVC catch tube and it was only secured by a few hand tightening nuts. I whipped those off and my eel was sitting right there in the small bit of water, which was cold because I had been running cold water to rinse some of my new filter media before installing in my new filter. I quickly grabbed him and ran him back to the tank.
The first one swam off immediately after I put him in. The second one, however, took a few seconds of motionless rolling and sinking before he perked up and swam off also. It has bee nearly an hour now and both appear fine but man was I worried and shocked when that happened!
Btw, my new filter is a SunSun 304B. I took pictures of I unboxing it and setting it up and plan on posting them in an unboxing thread.
Thanks all. Just thought I'd share this experience.
