Almost just lost both my eels!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, a day and a half later and both are doing well and have kept their appetite. They did stay hidden away most of yesterday but we're not as skiddish today and hung out in the open.

So as some of you may know, my Fluval 204 finally crapped out a few weeks ago

Btw, my new filter is a SunSun 304B. I took pictures of I unboxing it and setting it up and plan on posting them in an unboxing thread.

Thanks all. Just thought I'd share this experience.
I saw you somewhere on fb.

I'm pretty sure i said in one of your other threads to becareful of your eels getting out of any small openings in your tank, and as i guess you discovered, filters that have been turned off for a while make a very tempting cave like structure for eels to want to travel down into... Anyway, glad to hear that you managed to save both eels in time...

Sorry JohnTr but I don't have a Facebook.

Yes, Fat Homer, I remember that. I had been keeping an eye on them multiple times a day since I brought them home. They had never been up in the tubes and always hung out among the plants and under rocks. They even hung out inside the head of the internal filter, through the cord hole (I used a piece of sponge to block this off though). Anyway, I really had no reason to think they were in the old filter tubes. I feel extremely lucky to have caught them and got them back into the tank safely.

Also, ever since I got them I have kept packing tape over all of the opening on the back of the tank. My new filter uses a spray bar so they can't get into that one while it's off.

This gives me something to look into as I have an unplugged H.O.T.Magnum sitting on the back of my eel's tank. The eel has discovered the intake tube and poked it's head in the open bottom of the strainer.I did not think it would go too far up into the tube to endanger itself but I am not going to take any chances.
