alternative heating methods

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you insulate the tank well you ought to be OK with 1000W-1500W of heating. I have a 185 gallon tank in my garage that maintains 78F with one 250W heater. The garage will get down into the 40's at times.

I would think running flexwatt heat tape under a tank might work. My only worry would be temp changes cracking the glass if you were to add cold water to the tank. Anyone have any first hand experience with this?

well you arent suppost to add cold water to the tank, you want to match the current tank water when refilling as best as possible.

I think titanium heaters are the way to go.

Thanks for all the help. The reason i asked is because I'm cheap and was looking for a miracle cure for heating a large tank.

insulation really helps keep the heat in. we use styro sheets - cheap and light.
