To pool sand... I want something of similar color but not so small as to be sucked into filter and eat the impeller. All the gravel I've found locally is goofy colored or very dark. How many lbs for a 72*24*24?

182 x 91 x 2.6 cm = 43061.2 cm3

so try for 43 litres or 94lbs potentially, unless my math is wrong

I would say that pea gravel would be the closest you could get to color wise

Mary, one of the coolest ones (to me) I've seen lately is sold by Petsmart under the National Geographic brand. It's a natural sand colored substrate, chunkier than sand, but much finer than natural gravel. Probably what all use if I ever do a re-do to one of my tanks.

I would check out gome depot/lowes any of the big box stores should have it

If your only concern is getting sucked up into the filter I have never had an issue with pool filter sand on any canisters Ive used (ehiem 2262, FX5, CFS 500 and CFS 700).

Actual made for aquarium sand was too fine and got into my filters but havent caused any damage yet.

If all you use is canisters or sponge bubblers, sand shouldn't be an issue. The impellers are on the clean water return side of any canister I've ever seen. Sand and HOB filters is where the problems can arise. Even with sponges over the intakes, I've still had issues with that combo.

You might look into turface. The regular turface pro is a little redder than pfs, but readily available at lawn stores. They made/make different colors, but these are not easy to find. This is a clay substrate so super light for what it is, but it is a nice grain size that is not easily picked up by a filter.
