I would love a pbass but have not the space or the money to make the space, excuses excuses, but is there a fish that can rival the colours of a bass but able to be in a 40 or 50gal.
Pics of any species would be appreciated if there is such a fish.

For a 50, stop looking in South America and look over in Africa. There are dozens of color variants of the smaller species of Haplochromis. All of them have colors/patterns to rival PBass. And, the majority will grow to the 4-5" range.

thanks for those, but i suppose i should have been a little more specific, was in a rush when i posted, one thing is my water is acidic and very soft and i was looking for something with a little aggression to it. a solo fish would be fine if aggression in a tank this size dictates. Hope that clears up my mistakes

These haps are aggressive and can be kept with the addition of aragonite and holey rock to maintain a high pH. However, if that's not aggressive enough, how about a breeding pair of these:

IMHO a 50 is a bit small for a flowerrhorn or texas I would stick with the Africans unless you plan on upgrading sometime soon.

This fish would be my Pick though :)

almost forgot it is a Dimidiochromis compressiceps
