I was thinking about picking up a white or black and wanted to know what kind of tank mates they work well with ... the guy has some nice looking fire eels as well .. didn't know if that would be a possibility or not...

also what other fish would go with one of these guys?

1st home would be a 55 gal grow out ...

I have found calvus to be pretty easy going. They grow really slow so I would avoid anything that would outgrow them and then eat them. Mine have done well with C. brichardi.

what do you think about bichers and the fire eel .. i know that more then one do not work out unless you have a LOT of them .. and other ideas would be nice

I would think the eel and bricher would outgrow the calvus and eat them. If you got adult calvus it should be fine but they are $$$.

yea the ones im looking at are around 2" ... but i was not sure if they would really have a problem or not .. and since the selection around here is soo poor .. its hard to find other fish with the same slow growth ... that i dont know a thing about them and what they work well with

well that shoots one big hole into that .. maybe i will have to do 2 tanks .. a small grow out tank for the comps and the 55 for the fire eel bichers and maybe something else

Why not look into other Tanganyikan cichlids? Most grow just as slow as comps and prefer the same water parameters.

i will have to go back in and look around and see ... his selection is kind of small right now ... he is waiting for the other half of his building to be cleaned up so he can expand ..
