I am trying to finalize my stocking for a 29g Tang tank. The given in the equation is the Multi's. I started with hoping that I could go A. Black Calvus. That will not work since I can not find a known pair. Others have suggested the A. Comp. Sumbu Dwarf will work. Through several back and forths, many said it should work fine, some said 2 shell dwellers in 29g will never work.

Options for tank mate to multi's are limited... This option would be my best want (next to inkfin Calvus :( ) but, I want to do what is right for the fish and their health, happiness.

Thoughts? Opinions? Please do chime in as I order fish in less than a week.

Big THANKS!

Do the calvus just get some small one they are pretty cheap. WHat you mean by known pair? They have bred in a aquarium before I know a breeder.

:D wish it were so simple. I have been convinced that the Calvus pair is a no go as they simply will not pair up in a small tank

I was told not to keep discus in a 20 gal and that what professional breeders breed them in. People make up rules to be in "control". I say the decision I make at the end of the day is on me noone else. Any ways alot of water changes Once a week and you will be good and later if you decide up grade. Get what you want and do what you want dont let me or anyone on here persuade you. Alot of the info junk on the site is poop anyways people lie to you all the time on here. If they dont know what type of fish it is then its automatically a hybrid. Anyways i breed dempseys in a 30 gallon big texas cichlids, hybrids and I have seen tropheus breed in a 20 gal you are good man trust me.

Your issue will be the comps or calvus eating mult fry. I have done the same setup and once I removed the sumbu dwarf the fry started surviving. I then tried comps in a 110 with multies same results. I keep my larger comps and calvus in big tanks with fronts without issues. Remember breeding setups and show tanks are not the same. I breed things in way smaller tanks, but for show tanks you need more room. I bred dolphins in 29 gallon, but I can pull the female when she is holding or the male is getting too tough on her. If you have tank space to move fish it allows you to do a lot of different things.

I have settled in with the decision to go with Multi's and Caudopunks in the 29g Tang and for my 55g Mbuna tank I am going with Cynotilapia sp Hara White Top, Pseudotropheus sp. elongates Chailosi and Yellow Labs.... Common enough I know, but should have good color overall and no risk of hybridization or hyper aggression.
