Hi stevenrox,'

I am sorry but I am positive those are not altums. The line through the eyes, the shape of the mouth and the black, not brown vertical bars are an indicator to me.

Where did you get them? What were they sold to you as? What did your LFS label them as?

At best, they may be Peru "altums" which have not been classified as a separate species and are in fact scalare species.

Fantastic looking angels with lovely coloring none the less and I am waiting for my Peru's to arrive.
Threads merged. I wasn't aware of two similar threads in existence.

I see that cockroach has a similar thought. Peruvian scalares were my first thought when I saw the pics. None indicate the true altums.

they got it from Aqua Forest in San Francisco. and really more people think its altum?

Everyone who says that they are true altums is on crack...

They're Peruvian scalares, Steven. The true altums have been confused with the Peruvian scalares and also called Peruvian altums to mislead buyers into thinking they got the true altums. Either way, they're nice but make sure price is right.

8 people say yes 6 say no lol

Lupin- I also thought it could have been P. leopodi at first glance but then I looked at the head shape and the spot behind the dorsal fin (which to me was not round enough) were wrong. Here is a pic I found online of a nice breeder pair of leopoldis.

I was thinking about the leos and it doesn't seem right with those angels in question. So it seems the angels are Peruvian scalares as you had also identified. Peruvian "altum"...Peruvian scalare..both still are similar just to mislead buyers to true altums.

True and add on that nice little extra bit onto the price.
