I have had altums for many years but have been lucky with them. I had a group for years with zero problems until I had to sell them because of moving. This was the first year that I actually ordered some from distributors and have had some problems with them. With my experience with getting wild caught fish I have noticed that, in general, the first problems with new fish always seem to be something like ich or some type of fungal problem. Usually it takes a bit longer for internal parasites to start showing themselves.
What I have done to help control them is I start feeding them the same type of food that usually contains the medicine....flakes or pellets. I like feeding them NLS Thera A at least once a day. With the majority of wild fish that I have ever gotten...including altums....seemed to act favorably to that particular food. There are plenty of foods out there that contain medicine helpful for internal parasites. Angels Plus has some good flake food for this purpose. If you have finicky fish you might have to go the route like ordering something from nationalfishpharm.com. They have a couple of internal parasite medications that are like nuclear bombs....they wipe everything out. You would have soak some in the food that they eat. I am surprised that I dont hear more about that website. I know the meds are expensive from that place but if I spend hundreds of dollars on the fish why get cheap with the meds???
This is my advise that I would give to anyone. I realize that what I am saying might not be the way everyone would do this. There are lots of places you can go and look for more info. finarama.com is a good source for info on wild species of angels. Anyways hope some of this helps and good luck
