wow i didnt know altums where so sensitive to water. a great place where i got my altum is mikes killer fish in lodo D town. they have young healthy altums if any body lives there, also have web site which name yu kuld already guess. just so yu know

As Larry says not everything that is sold as "Altum" is Altum (in fact, in the UK very few of the fish sold as "Altum" are!) The Altumish Scalares (there are several different races falling under this description) are definately more tolerant of lesser water quality than the fish from the Orinoco drainage. The term "Peruvian Altum" creates some very muddy water when identifying these lovely fish.

larry is dead on what he said about acclimation. thats the battle. i try to get them from differnent places but every order theres at least 25% doa. i believe its more from shock than it is bad water quality. i have a ro system but ive had alot better luck with a softner. alot of people get nervious also. they see all there fish swimming on there sides and looking pretty bad so they hurry up and dump them in the tank. instant dealth hen you do that. i usually acclimate about 3 hours. a fish you might think was dead might supprise you.

i have mine in 7.0 ph and they have been doing fine and they even live with frontosa lots of people say that they should have been dead but im happy and i guess all of my fish are also
