I went down to the beach for a week and left my tank keeping to my mother who also enjoys my fish tank, well something went horribly wrong while I was away and most of my fish died. Well my older brother was also home, who is an electrical engineer. Well he thought it would just be best to turn off my filters, lights, and drain as much water as they could out of the tank. And NOT tell me they did the latter.

My mothers excuse was "Your brother went to Hopkins and he is an engineer!". Yes, true, but I go to school for marine biology/pre-med and all he deals with is math.

Only survivor? My sail fin pleco. Luckily, I had not gotten my fire eel yet or I would have thrown a fit.

The victims were 3 Red-Top Zebra's and two electric yellows.

When I came home there was only 6 inches of water in my 75 gallon tank, with no filtration and light I can't believe my pleco survived for 4 days! He is one tough sucker!

Oh and this was a few months ago, so my tank is back to normal now.

I wlda cracked some skulls. I think whenever i go somewhere Imma write a car sheet for what to do when im gone

That is a spectacular idea.

I am lucky that my stepson is an avid fishkeeper too. He takes real good care of the fish.

After reading that story though I want to know is if you still have a brother :hitting:

I always have my father in law watch my fish when I'm away, he used to keep koi so even if he's not aware of the specific type of fish needs, he knows all that he needs to to handle emergencies. and he of course calls when there is a problem.

the only trouble then is when we vacation with the in laws. I guess that would be a good time for the long instruction sheet with contact numbers.

i went to my nans for the wknd and my filter packed up, my mum rang me 1st thing in the morning crying that all the fish were dead....iv never driven back home so quick in my life. 2hour trip normally and made it in 1hr15mins.
all that survived from that was my plec and delhezi bichir.
2 crayfish, 2 fronts and a blood parrot died....one of the saddest days of my life.

My rommate watches the tanks when I'm travelling for work, etc. He's as much of a fish nut as I am, so it works out great! Not sure what I'm gonna do if we both go away...
